“Sal fishes Canada” Part 1 of a series

July 8th, 2010

Perhaps the single most significant provider of content to this web effort is Sal Monid. My very own pops. I know that many of you regular viewers here around Portland/Vancouver know of Sal and might have even fished with him. He’s very easy going in that way.

Anyhow, I’m excited and flattered to offer you the content he retrieved on his newly gifted Olympus Tough 8010 provided for Allaroundangler.com.

Part 1 will be a look into some of their halibut hook-ups. Sal get’s three on film and they have a blast doing it. There will be Ocean and bank salmon movies yet to come. THIS is Sal Monid’s Canadian Adventure 2010, Part 1:

What do you know about “Dorymen”??

July 8th, 2010

Photos for this post by Sandy Weedman

I didn’t know a whole lot either. The closest thing I could think of when hearing the word “Dory” (An old school sea worthy vessel seen here) was an old fiberglass drift boat I used to borrow from Eric Linde called a Lavro. The guys growing up would always call it a sea dory with a driftboat ass-end. Other than that? I had no idea. Until now.

I recently met with a customer of mine in the store who I knew to be a blue water angler, among other types. Sure enough, he had some stories for me about some photos that an ace photographer named Sandy Weedman (view Sandy’s website here) had taken of him and his brother and their 4th generation Sea Dory…..The “Moby Dick”.

I came to learn that while I spent my molded angling years fishing tribs and lakes…my friend Brett spent his youth learning how to launch and land a power boat in the surf. I want to thank him for sharing this spread with us. Just breath-taking photos. That stuff is no joke either.
