DD scores on spring nickel….it’s all heart.
March 18th, 2010
You have to close your eyes and imagine this: Well, read it first and just close your eyes metaphorically. Anyway, I am standing at the reel counter winding line at work. I notice out of the corner of my eye that ToDD is walking toward me. He’s looking dazed. A little worn out but still running on juices you could tell.
I took my foot off the winding pedal so I could hear him talk. Only he didn’t talk. He simply made a fist, raised his hand and deliberately pounded his chest one time. Right over his heart. He looked right at me and said “it was just me and the dog”….meaning his beautiful black lab and #1 fishing partner, Jake.
Thankfully both The Brick and Thad Tyler walked up to offer a photo to be emailed into me for posting. Brennan went out and snapped this beauty. Man, if ToDD had wanted to he could have really bulked this fish up for the camera. I went out to take a look at it and it was beefy. Just a real chunky 15 or 16# spring salmon.
He earned that bad boy too, folks. He’s been putting it work for that first highly coveted spring salmon. It’s all heart and it’s all about the grind. The best guys out there will tell you that to keep it simple and put in the work is the only way to be. The Double D proved that for me. What a first fish of the season.

DD’s fish was taken on a cut plug herring
