My most recent trip log features the newest affordable steelhead finesse rod endorsed by Allaroundangler.com…the Okuma SST, 10′ 6″ spinning ‘Float Drifter’. I paired the rod (which retails for 75.00) up with the most affordably smooth (retrieve and drag) spinning reel on the market today…The Okuma Avenger…which retails for 35.00 and sports a 7 ball bearing construction.

In addition to this rod and reel outfit I topped off the outfit with the newest smart-braid from Tuf Line…The ‘Duracast’ product. Available in moss green or high viz yellow, this braided line literally has a core, or nucleus to it, unlike other ‘flat’ braids. The core is round and fused into the rest of the braid.

The result is a line that has high floatability, knot strength and a much increased mendability aspect. This line really has some poop to it unlike some of the other usual suspects. This line is engineered for a spinning reel.

High kudos to the Okuma team from Allaroundangler.com as this entire outfit, braided line included, retails for $120.00. Dang. Now that’s economically friendly without sacrificing the length and weight we require for our typical float methods.

Especially since these rods are engineered and spec’d by local anglers like you and me who know what kind of rods we need for our steelhead finesse fishing tactics, methods & variety of styles.

Kudos to Okuma for becoming a preferred rod of Allaroundangler.com. Now enjoy this photo spread from my first day out with the new diggs.
