Hiking for steelhead reconnaissance
September 6th, 2009
A not-so-secret location….we stopped at along the way. Mostly to see the large crowd antics and laugh at this estuary bank hog line….

After a whole lotta anchor fishing for chinook lately, I thought it would be fun to stretch the legs and hit a CR trib for some steelhead. LOW water meant it was to be mostly a recon trip and experimental spot scopeage. We are loading the weekend up with big river hours getting logged…but managed to allaround angle just a bit…..

There’s a tricky thing to fishing a river that’s been really low but now has a murkiness to it indicative of high water flow associated conditions. So, what do you do? Pretty much everything. Then what? I don’t know. We didn’t hook any fish. But we had some great ideas, we thought. Bad timing is one way to look at it. But really, it was amazing timing, because no one else was afoot the river. Something to be said, yeah?
Well, if you’re sitting around like I am, doing your computer thing….you could really use some new chinook salmon video and photos yeah? How about from your Captain? Let me crack the knuckles and punch that out. After all, it’s my first king in 9 trips. Same as last year. Wheels are greased now.
So maybe I’ll just sit around for a second….
The hike in to get this seat was nothing short of a billy goat. Army crawl…scaling cliffs…but look at the seat I get.
