When to slide and when not to slide; that is the question…

May 7th, 2009

I thought since I’ve had so much success these past few seasons for steelhead under a float….(and for those of you that know me you know how long it took me to come around to float fishin’…) that I would put together a tutorial or ‘how to’ rig bobbers for steelhead. Also, which shapes and sizes work best for what…..I run more than one float now, believe it or not.

…..I thought something describing the benefits of a ’sliding’ system with a stop versus a ‘fixed’ rig….might be beneficial for some of you?? I know there’s a few of you out there that religiously run fixed rigs because you’re intimidated or unfamiliar with the process of getting a sliding rig all put together and maintained cast over cast….(Sal, H2O…Beuller)….

More over, it may just be a function of knowing how to tie your own bobber stop. A foul-rooted bobber stop will drive you to drinking, no doubt. The solution is easy, and I can go over that in detail with the upcoming ‘how to’.

There’s more than one way to rig a float for steelhead…and I have lots of tricks for boat and bank..

There’s a lot of moving parts and pieces with a sliding rig, and each rig depends on which kind of float you want to run….it also takes a little getting used to, but is so much more effective in most situations over a fixed rig.
