Here They Come

January 7th, 2009

As I stand at my AAA workstation this morning and check river levels………I’m just getting all giddy. These bad boys are going to blow……Look at that vertical spike on the Sandy!

You can easily set the AAA river level page as your favorites, and keep an eye on them yourself.

Once you click on the picture of the Nestucca on the River Level page, (shown in a screen print above) it will redirect you to an overall map from which you can select your favorite Oregon or Washington river or stream. I’ll be walking the creek again in this high water very soon if anyone is interested.

Some of the best bank Steelhead fishing I’ve had has been in high water with bobbers, very close to the bank. Recently, I’ve gone to a long spinning rod so I may cast some small ‘dink’ floats as opposed to my heavy corks. I still like the heavy cork if I am fishing heavy current seams in deeper water. Another difference between running a cork float and running a dink, is that with a cork float…..you must also run some lead off of your terminal gear. With my spinning outfit, I can run split shot down the leader by themselves.

This is something that Pops loves to do with his Colorado spinners under a dink. But I guess I’ll let that little riggin remain a mystery to those who haven’t seen this marvelous contraption. Friggin Canadians really rubbed off on him. Too many trip to BC to not take on some Canuk behavior. Stay Dry.
