A huge lake between two straights in the Great Lakes system, but’s it’s not recognized as one of them. Total world class wamwater fishery and probably one of the best Smallmouth scenes in North America. It’s not drift fishing the St. Croix, but it diverse (1-9 feet deep) and supports 6lb smallies.
You can site fish them on the flats in the spring, or fish blindly over deep weed edges in the summer and fall. Clousers, crayfish patterns and weighted sculpins (a non-indigenous species, round gobies are over the great lakes now.) Heres a pic of pops. I have had 20 fish days on flies. 4-5 pounders……..

And I will be there… I have an unbelievable woman. She’s insisting I come to see you guys. I arrive in town Oct 31st at 11am and leave early Sunday morning. So, I’ll have Friday afternoon and Saturday to get into some slime. Need guidance on flies. Obviously I’ll have eggs a plenty, but could use some input on streamers, etc.
Woot.

I almost hesitate to even write that this was indeed our last assault on the CR Silvers and Kings run we’ve been milking chrome fish off of for almost 7 weeks now…..so consider this post written in pencil. These last two trips though, one in my boat and one in Todd’s, were loaded with memorable weather and fish catching events. Read on, wobbler-lovers:

25 knot winds with 12 oz outgoing tides= whitecaps and rollers

LipRipper’s Pal Jim’s Boat…

The fish that defied the odds…
I’ve heard from friends that there are several of you out there who follow Team Salmon’s “conquest, struggles and triumphs”….(okay, I was trying to sound like a TV show guy…)..but seriously, if there are some of you who like to read our posts, just click the comment bar, enter your email address and post a comment…..

Todd’s Dog, Jake, is my all time favorite Lucky Fishing Dog. I knew this would be the case this past Sunday morning as B Dog and I met Todd and Jake at the boat launch. I just somehow knew. Jake the Lucky Fishing Dog has put some serious fish in the boat on his karma wagon….and for this I say “thank you, Jake!” The best of all though was Jake watching my rod wobbling…while scoping some seagulls eating his dog food. “Not Right” he must have been thinking. I, however, was thinking ‘what a great shot for the site’.

Sunday’s Fruits
So, in tribute to…potentially….a long and now….possibly….exhausted CR King Season…..as well as those of you who follow our trips and so forth…..I will leave you all with a photo array of this weekend…in a fishery most would consider a month or more expired. Remember, there’s nothing like the tug.

My best Jack Nicholson face…and David Copperfield trick….

Congratulations: If you read all the way down to this point….your reward is the knowledge that there is a great video to come of my late sea lice ridden silver bullet from yesterday….as soon as You Tube gets their sshhh together, I’ll embed the video.
Now go fishing!
