How About a break of dawn Steelhead float?

June 28th, 2008

Tomorrow, Sunday the 29th. B Dog and I are going to float the Clack on a quick morning trip before the heat comes.

I thought there might be another drift boat interested.

I think Sal and his buddy Ken are hitting something on bank.

Oh by the way, Big Tone’s cousin got a 30lb Springer this week….just a pig. Tone, got a picture?

Our Utah Brethren

June 26th, 2008

Hey thanks to Bob D aka The Real D Insane for sending us these beautiful Largemouth photos and a little summary describing……….

June 24th, Bob Didier….Utah warmwater circuit….

The first cupla pics are from Quail Creek Res. We fished last friday from 6am - 3pm and it was a tough post spawn bite.

bob-d-qc-6-20-08-002.jpg

Only caught 8 fish, with the best 2 fish weighing 3 lbs 10 oz each, and the water temps were up to 75 and the end of the day. Fished deep points with jigs and my secret weapon…a 7 inch senko. We call it the ‘Ron Jeremy bait’.

The last pic is of a nice 3 lber from Sand Hollow Res. last Wednesday. Caught on a drop shot in 15 ft of water. Thats it for now, no giants yet, but I’m gonna keep throwing the swimbaits for that monster.

Should be getting good as soon as they recover from the spawn and move shallow again. Later….

Springer***The Other Pink Meat, Boys

June 25th, 2008

This is a quik go to that is sure to please anyone!!!!!

Roasted Springer w/seared scallops & pink grapefruit beur blanc

springerscallop-webpage.JPG

Cut salmon into serving size pieces and remove the skin. Salt and pepper a little place in a baking dish into the oven at 375 degrees for about 15-18 mins.

Now squeeze the hell out of a grapefruit till you get about half a cup of juice in a saucepan. Add 3 tablespoons fine minced onion, pinch of salt, 1/2 cup white wine, and a tablespoon of white wine vinegar.

Wine should be open at this point anyways because hopefully she is well on her way to drunk. Reduce this to 1/3 then add in about 4 tablespoons of butter and 1/8 cup of cream. Dont boil it or it will seperate. Keep it warm cuz the fish is almost done now guys.

Take a big glug of beer cuz we need to get the scallops going now ok!

In a teflon skillet heat 3 tablespoons olive oil and a scoop of butter till hot. Salt and pepper the scallops and dredge them in some flour.

Shake off as much of the flour and drop them in the skillet for about 2-3 min each side. They should look like the picture above!

The fish should be done now so put it on the plates add the scallops! pour on the sauce and add a veggie or not…

New Page Added!!

June 24th, 2008

I’ve decided to add a ‘Contributors Bio’ page to allaroundangler.com! Feel free to send me anything that I can permanently put up…(well not totally permanent, but more permanent than a post) :-)

Oh and several of you have pinged me looking for some direction on the “BIO” piece…..seriously, anything you want to contribute is great and I won’t change a thing. This is about you and in your words.

Tight lines. Now somebody go catch a Spring Chinook. Okay besides LipRipper.

Thanks to Jeff Mishler and Dusty Hansen aka LipRipper for getting my lazy bones out on the river.

Check out Jeff’s article “River Ethics” in the lates STS……..

That’s what I needed to get me going: A hot, chrome Spring Chinook eating a huge fillet-wrapped Kwikfish in the Merc propwash.

Captain Jeff Mishler aka Mouth Stapler (okay I made that up for him, but you should’ve seen him set that big Kwikfish into that Salmon’s face!)

I swore we were saltwater fishing. Amazing. I’ll get a video up soon, although the Cat needs a new camera. I’m taking site donations for new equipment :-).

That’s a picture of our own Pablo admiring my catch.

Her name is Evelyn Diane Meskel (EV) and she is a keeper for sure.

Salmon Fly hatch on the Reservation side of the D

June 18th, 2008

Last Friday I finally got to head out to the Deschutes and fish the Res. The trip had been canceled twice due to weather and the chief not allowing “the man” on the reservation due to some legal fiasco.

The day was perfect. 85 degrees with a light breeze and pleanty of sun to get the bugs going. There were four of us on the trip and none of us caught any thing samller than 16 inches. One of the guys caught an absolute pig. The bugs of choice (which you’ll see in the fish’s grills) were the Mac Salmon, The Norm Woods, The Rogue Foam and the Clark Stone. All of these in size 2 and 4. Violent strikes on large dy flies…nothing better.

At one point toward the end of the day we looked up to see a blanket of salmon flies screening out the sun. It was awesome.

Here’s some of the photos.

This Springer Report “just in” from LipRipper

June 17th, 2008

To many people’s surprise, there are Spring Chinook to be had by Drift Boaters. My boy LipRipper went 1 for 4 with a BRUISER of a keeper to the boat.

Although his other three felt very solid on the take, they all three popped, not broke, off.

And yes, we have LipR to thank for giving us this story but even more so FOR FORGETTING HIS CAMERA IN HIS DAUGHTERS LITTLE SCHOOL BACKPACK. I swear, between him and Sal, I’ll never get the pics this site deserves!

You can be Goddamn sure that those of us, who regularly harvest Salmon and Steelhead in the single digit numbers each year, will have our fawking cameras with us.

Sheeeit, I doubt LipR even reads the site anymore. Friggin professionals. Lol. See ya.

Massive Carp held by massive dude

June 17th, 2008

I still have tears from this one.

Is this guy Bobby “Bacala” Baccalieri from the Sopranos or Larry David’s manager ‘Jeff’ in Curb Your Enthusiasm? Brilliant.

Yeah and the Carp is about as huge and Gnarsty as fishly possible.

Picture from the vault….
