Funny Story About Gavin’s Piscatorial Pursuits……
February 2nd, 2008
As I sit in calm moments and sit and look at photos and videos of Gavin, I find myself compelled to share a few anecdotes fromover the years.
I recently caught myself laughing out loud at a pic I snapped of Gavin after one helluva long day of coastal Chinook fishing in the rain.

“I don’t need a rain coat, thanks anyway.”
Gavin had a dozen or so hook ups under his belt at this point in time……we all thought it might be time to get Gavin into a Tillamook King, after successfully tackling Lyle and Lorraine’s property for Coho for two weeks prior.
Without a doubt, 2005 gave us quite a bit of Coho loving…Anyway, on this particular day, Pablo, Jed, Gavin and I piled into Gavin’s Dodge PU for a midday run to the Wilson River Guide Shop run.
I had stung some pigs the previous two days and had Gavin’s blood pressure raised ever so slightly with the anticipation of a bent stick. So get this, we end up getting to our fishing hole by about 345pm, with about 2 hours of light left to fish. All of us our geared up and ready to go…….well, almost all of us. As the fellas were buttoning up their jackets, hats and rain pants, Gavin was Bee lining toward the river bank.
Wearing nothing but jeans and a T shirt, with a box of fishing tackle under one arm, and all of his warm clothing under another. Gavin would never get to wearing the foul weather gear though. No hat, no gloves, just a t shirt folks. He was a warm blooded dude, no doubt about that.
Gav was quite literally so excited to fish, that he left all else behind to be able to make that first cast. The first cast is a beautiful thing for us loyal angling type. I mean, you only get one, right? Well, Gavin got his first cast off ok, and his second and third and fiftyith.
Problem was, that while he was turning into a human water fountain with paper flat hair plastered to the top of his head, I was indeed committing bloody King Salmon murder…..cast….after…..cast…,..after……cast ….until, finally we ran out of light. With a big fish on the bank and several others released of lost early, we’d decided to call it a day. I turned to Gavin, with all my excitement….he says “man hellcat, you just caught a whole bunch of Salmon right in front of me using the same stuff Im using. I reply by saying “yes”. Next thing Gavin said to me was “I need to get outfitted for Kings then”. I guess you could say we were inspiring each other….the next this we did shortly thereafter together, was bought a Diamond Back drifter. You can see in the pic below, Gavin in rowing down the Clackamas and getting to learn the stix. He did great and always maintained such strength…it was unbelievable.
H3llcat and B Dog wave goodbye to you brother…but only for a while…until then, perhaps a passing wind on my favorite river will let me know you are near……One Love Mr.Anderson.
