Headed upstream to try this gorgeous river that reportedly had salmon and steelhead.
I have previously tried to confirm their presence but to no avail.
Today the fall weather and the colors are amazing.
We arrive before the sun is above the ridges and get two hours in fishing a run that would make any steelheader drool.
<
It is flies only and two of us are firing away with a variety of skaters and streamers. Every cast I can imagine the big head rising out of the depths to take the fly.
Nice dream but no reality.
The golden glow as the sun came over the ridge was the religous.
We definitely achieved the zen of fishing but not the thrill of the catch. After 4 trips to the river, the absence of action is becoming a personal challenge.
Maybe the next time?

Just a quick update that as I continue my rampage around the Pac NW with Lobey in search of something chrome, post Croatia, I remain goose-egged.
Lobey and I daisy-chained it across a very murky Sandy River, post Marmot blow-out, only to find a graveyard of dead, and half dead boots errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Silvers.
There was a little fat kid that had a snagging spot he was sitting down at and gigging dying, dark fish. Proceeding to ‘bonk’ said gigged, dark fish. All the while being fed cigarettes by his big, weird Greek buddy. Ahhh, the wonders of meat-hole Coho fishing.
We did run into Brent aka Magicsoul and his buddy, Paul. We sat and roundtabled the day before he and Brent went downriver to Brent’s ’spot’. We got word a little later, as we were on the way to see Gavin, that Brent got a couple………no idea on the shape of the fish.
