Another bass adventure
November 6th, 2008
What is up everyone? I hit my local reservior, Quail Creek, today with Jack Daddy. It’s getting cold down here finally and the bass are slowing down. The water has dropped to 60 degrees, so the most active fish now in this lake are the trout. But we were after our beautiful green friends. Anyway, we only caught 3 today, but all were quality fish. The biggest was the first fish I caught today, a nice 19 inch/4 lb largemouth. I got another that was about 16 inches and Jack Daddy got one that was about 17 inches. We also both accidently caught one trout each. It was the first time I’ve caught a trout on a football jig/hula grub. Only took a couple pics to share.

Hey Bob! Nice work man! By this spring, I will be having a bit of a Bass jones myself, as I will be able to Smallmouth fish in the CR out of my driftboat……that will be cool…I’ll need some tactics coaching

Thanks guys. It is pretty much always bluebird skys down here, but it was pretty cold. Had a very rare bit of rain the night before and before I left for the lake I had a nice frozen rain puddle on my boat cover. The lows got down to 30. That’s how it is down here, bloody hot for 8 months and freezing cold for 4 months…lol. Peace!

Hey Chris, since you’ve obviously fished the CR many times and I never have(very strange thought, since I lived up there for 29 years of my life), how is the structure like in that river? How deep is it on average? Do the bass get much pressure in the P-town area? I never really knew that the CR and WR had bass. I read in one of my bass mags that the CR ranks in the top 10 of bass fisheries in the US. It was a pretty cool to read about my home water in a national magazine.

Hey Bob….it’s been a lot of years since I’ve fished either the Willamette or the CR for Smallies. Maybe twelve years or at least ten. I’m sure not a lot has changed as far as what used to work for us which was mostly Kale Grubs or whatever…usually three inch on a eighth or quarter oz jighead. Mostly working rip rap points or rocky shores….around 18 to 40 feet depending. I’ve got a lot to dig back out of the mental archives in order to hit it this spring….will be fun though.
