Hi and thanks for reading and viewing content here at All Around Angler.com.
I appreciate your support.
This post features a movie made from Saturday’s float trip for Luis Rivas’ aka El Padron’s birthday where a tough day gets a little tougher when my reel breaks while I’m fighting a steelhead.
I do my best to sensor these movies but viewers be warned as foul language may be detected underneath my sensor beeps from time to time.

Nice fish Chris, good job landing it with a major equipment malfunction. Yep….from my end sure sounds like the gears slipped then stripped out. Thats a bummer, and not a good advertisement for Okuma.
I can tell you this. As a reel technician, I give high praise to the Shimano spinning reels that have the Palladin Gearing in them and the Daiwa spinning reels that have the Digigear gearing in them. They are smooth and ultra strong, and because of this, i have not seen this happen with one of them.
Just my opinion of course.
Tight lines and screaming drags!
As always, Mr. Strenk, I’m humbled by your participation and expertise. I plan on buying a REEL spinning reel with my tax return. Nuff of this chinese crap.
I bought the Stradic today. It’s a breath of fresh air to own a high quality reel. It’s not always necessary as the cheaper ones have their place when money is short…..but a reel this nice has been a long time coming for me.
i think i may return my trio 40 s after seeing this and pick up a shimano in the 4000. have a trio 30 s. i will use it until it is toast.
“On the broken reel, on the broken reel…..I broke the reel”, that was funny as hell oh you crack me up. Nice looking fish.
Well done on the Stradic purchase Hellcat……you wont be disappointed 🙂 It will serve you well for a long time……lord knows you are gonna put it through its paces… you T.O.A.D chrome slayer 🙂
Scott I think the Trios are fine for up to about 20 fish. It’s the plastic gears that wear out. The drag is great.
Oh thanks, John. I’m stoked to hook some fish on it and get that drag screaming. Nada this weekend. That hurts.
